Nguyễn Hoàng Vi and family continue to be harassed by Vietnamese Communist security police

CTV Danlambao * Translated by Jasmine Tran - Vietnamese security police continued to harass blogger Nguyễn Hoàng Vi and her family, obstructing their freedom of movement. They have imposed similar tactics on many other human rights dissidents in Saigon; Communist security police are stationed in front of houses, to block residents from leaving.

At 3pm on 16 January 2015, Vi’s family, including her mother, younger sister and her two children, called a taxi to go out. Two security police intercepted them as they arrived at Alley 107 Phan Văn Nam, Phú Thạnh ward, Tân Phú district, forcing the taxi driver to cancel their trip. The officers then rudely commanded Hoàng Vi and her family to return to their house, forbidding them from travelling.

Vi and her family left the taxi and walked. In the video, we see Nguyễn Hoàng Vi struggling to walk straight ahead, carrying her infant in her arms, despite being pushed and dragged by two well-built security police. The older woman in the video is Nguyễn Thị Cúc, Hoàng Vi’s mother, who attempts to protect her children and grandchildren.

Soon after, plainclothes security police and agents of local security forces arrived to block Hoàng Vi and her family from leaving the area.

Carrying the infant, Hoàng Vi then walked to Le Cao Lang Street. When she could walk no further, she enacted a sit-down strike on the streets, objecting to the human rights abuses of the Vietnamese Communist Government.

Nguyễn Hoàng Vi’s harassment has occurred as the 41st Anniversary of Chinese invasion of Paracel Islands approaches (19 January 1974 to 19 January 2015). It is known that the private residences of many prominent anti-China activists are now under close watch by police.

Nguyễn Hoàng Vi, born 1987, is a member of the Network of Vietnamese Bloggers.

On 9 December 2014, she was brutally assaulted by police disguised as thugs, as she organized activities to celebrate Human Rights Day on 10 December. That day was also the first anniversary of the formation of the Network of Vietnamese Bloggers.
